Vokswagen Passat 2024: the last road tests
Volkswagen is not abandoning the station wagon segment since the German manufacturer wishes to renew its emblematic Passat, produced in more than 30 million copies in 50 years. Before its presentation at the start of the next school year, the brand communicates on the latest road tests.
Room for comfort
Volkswagen used the group's modular MQB platform but adapted it to offer a longer wheelbase. Indeed, space on board seems to be the priority of this next generation of Passat SW since Kai Grünitz, Member of the Board of the brand in charge of technical development declared:
“With the new Passat, we have placed great importance on driving comfort on long journeys, something that customers will immediately feel. This comfort is ensured in particular by a longer wheelbase and the new adaptive chassis control with two-valve shock absorbers. At the same time, our new display and operating concept is very intuitive. The temperature-adjustable massaging seats exemplify the even higher quality in the cabin.”
Volkswagen announces that the quality materials used for the vehicle as well as the sound insulation will allow the Passat to pass into a new universe of comfort. In addition, the electric front seats will be adjustable to 14 positions but also have massage and cooling functions.
The long wheelbase of this Passat SW allows more space on board. Indeed, Volkswagen already informs us that the additional 14 centimeters on the total length of the car allow to improve the legroom of 5 centimeters, in the same way the trunk gains 40 liters in the operation to reach 690 liters, a gain increased to 140 liters with the seat folded down bringing the cargo space to 1,920 litres.
The Volkswagen Passat SW is also being modernized on board with new technologies taking into account customer feedback asking for easier to use and more intuitive controls. Remarks that prompted Volkswagen to develop a new infotainment system with a 12.9-inch screen as standard (can go up to 15-inch as an option), it gets touch sliders under the screen allowing faster access to essential functions such as the temperature on board the vehicle or the sound of the media played. The digital instrument cluster is also new, it can be combined with an optional head-up display.
